Creative Blog Hop

I have been invited to join the Creative Blog Hop by Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Heidi Johnson.  I connected with Heidi through our wonderful Luv2Stamp group and it just so happens we live very close to each other. We briefly had a chance to meet about a week ago. I hope we get to spend more time together in the future. She is the first SU! Demonstrator  I have met in person.
The Creative Blog Hop asks us to answer 4 questions about ourselves and is a way of introducing you to somebody else and learning a bit more about each of us.

•  What are you working on?

I'm currently working on Birthday cards, Anniversary cards and a New Baby card.  I belong to my local MOM's Club chapter and enjoy creating cards to send to our members. This week I will also be working on some Valentine's projects for my children, husband and our neighbors.

•  How does your work differ from others in your genre?

I'm not so sure my work differs much from other cardmakers, but I do tend to create very CAS (Clean & Simple) cards. I love a lot of white space (open space) and pops of color. Embellishments are usually kept very minimal and if I use any sort of trim it's generally Linen Thread of twine.
This is a CAS card I created today.
As you can see it is very simple with a pop of color (striped paper) and just 2 jewels for an added touch. This card gets dimension from popping up the white panel and to keep it soft looking, I chose Early Espresso ink over black. To give it just a touch more whimsy, I cut the bottom edge with the Small Scallop Cutting Blade.
 •  Why do you create what you do?
I started out scrapbooking and loved the design element, but eventually grew tired of trying to find things to scrapbook about. So, I ventured into cardmaking. There is nearly always something you can make a card for and who doesn't love to receive something made with love? With cardmaking I still enjoy the design element and can either make a one off or multiples of the same design. And it's a ton of fun to get together with friends and create cards!
•  How does your creative process work?
I usually start with either a stamp set or layout. (For the card above I started with the layout and then chose the stamp set to fit the panel once the heart was punched). Next, I select paper and ink. My card bases are generally white or a neutral of some sort, so that part is easy.  When using colored cardstock and/or patterned paper, it's used sparingly and usually as an accent. But once in a while you'll see me do something like this where I use a soft patterned paper for a background.  I'm very, very messy. Ink sometimes transfers from my fingers to my card base and I'll often lose something on my craft table among all the stuff.  This recent card required a couple of creative fixes due to ink transfer and smudging.

Thank you so much for stopping by to learn a bit about me. Next week on February 16th, my fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrators Melanie Smith of Fairy Stamp Land and Roberta Timmons of Stamp with Roberta will be sharing about their creative side and showing off their creative talent. Please pop by to say Hello and leave them some love.

Fab Friday #57-Color Challenge

Happy Saturday! There is a fabulous stamping challenge over at the Fab Friday blog. It's the first challenge of 2015 and it's a color challenge. I love color challenges because they often make me use colors I wouldn't think of putting together.

Isn't this palette lovely? And perfect for those Valentine's projects.

I made this cute card with a pop of black.

I had to cover a couple mistakes on this one. That "flag" covers a couple spots where I pressed to hard and got extra stamp marks. The flag pole was drawn with pencil and ruler and then retraced with a pen. A little voice inside my head said, "Wait for the ink to dry." I ignored it and erased the pencil, thus smearing the ink. Uniball White Signo Pen to the rescue. And there is some ink that transferred from my fingers to the top of the card. Fortunately it was the lightest color. Hey! It's handmade. It's supposed to be unique right?
